From Dream to Reality

Mike Knight’s first project was a waterfront home on the Saanich Peninsula. It was designed by Pamela Charlesworth, one of Victoria’s most respected and well-known architects. Since then, his reputation for transforming a sheaf of blueprints into a stone, wood and brick reality has been earned many times over in the custom homes he has built throughout Greater Victoria and the Peninsula.

“There are endless details involved in building a custom home, says Knight. “Even the seemingly impossible can be achieved. If the desired square footage doesn’t mesh with the available land, all the elements have to be massaged to reach a compromise everyone is happy with.”

A self-proclaimed perfectionist who oversees everything from landscape design and stonemasonry to custom millwork and decorative finishings, Mike has input into every aspect of the project, inside and out.

“In an age where mass production is the norm, it’s exciting to include special features and details,” says Mike. His team of craftsmen and trades people move with him from project to project as needed, ensuring consistently high standards of workmanship for both traditional and high-tech features. “If it can be imagined, it can probably be built,” he says. His projects have included features such as a maple-paneled library with massive granite fireplace; the sweeping curve of a custom-designed staircase, a swimming pool with European mosaic motifs, a state-of-the-art media room and a unique hot tub nestled into the rocks just steps from the ocean.

Mike’s intensive, detail-driven management approach is enhanced by the harmonious relationship he strives for with everyone involved. “I coordinate a myriad of interactions among the client, architect, designers and trades people in order to make a dream home a reality. A contractor has to be part diplomat, part task master and part psychic to get the job done right.”

His thoughtful and understanding nature endears him to his clients.
