Job Description
A Lead Carpenter oversees construction projects and supervises a team of carpenters while doing skilled carpentry work. They take responsibility for ensuring that construction tasks are completed on time and meet quality standards. Reporting to and taking direction from the Project Manager.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Review construction plans and blueprints to understand task requirements
- · Coordinate and supervise the daily activities of carpenters and other skilled workers
- · Estimate the quantity and type of materials required for each task
- · Create task timelines and schedules
- · Ensure that construction sites are safe and free from hazards
- · Train new carpenters and apprentices and supervise their work
- Perform skilled carpentry work, including forming, framing, and finishing work on the tools
- · Helping keep the site organized
Qualifications and Requirements
- · High school diploma or equivalent
- · 5+ years of experience in carpentry and construction
- · Expertise in various carpentry techniques and tools
- · Experience leading and supervising construction teams
- · Ability to read and interpret construction plans and blueprints
- · Familiarity with building codes and safety regulations
- · Excellent communication and leadership skills
- · Valid driver’s license and own transportation.
Working Conditions
Lead Carpenters work on construction sites, both indoors and outdoors. They are exposed to various weather conditions. They may be asked to work long hours and weekends to meet project deadlines. Physical demands include standing, bending or twisting the body, making repetitive motions, handling material manually and walking and running.
